11 Potential Dating Disasters and How to Deal with Them

Some potential dating disasters can be part of the dating process, others are reasons to run. Here’s how to deal with eleven potential dating disasters and a reminder that you can’t date successfully without a sense of humor.

1. Constantly stares at your boobs.

If you’re on a dinner date, look down at your plate and bend forward, and then look up and see if he catches your eye. The men who didn’t intend to be such a schmuck will be embarrassed, the rest will just play it off that your boobs are too mesmerizing to resist. The former might deserve a chance with you, the latter is a player. Take your pick.

2. Shows up drunk.

Alarm bells should be ringing so loud that this dating disaster is easy. Leave.

3. You’re really late is a dating disaster.

Call him and apologize profusely that this doesn’t demonstrate how important the date is to you. Be prepared that he may want to reschedule and you may not hear from him again. That could depend upon why you are so late and if he believes you. After all, that’s how you would react if the situation were reversed, right?

4. You spill on him.

This dating disaster will teach you things about how he reacts to the unexpected. (No, don’t do it on purpose just to find out. That’s creepy.) Of course you’d apologize and offer to pay for his dry cleaning.

5. Brings a list of interview questions.

This is something that Sheldon Cooper on the television show the Big Bang Theory would do. To his credit, he’d tell you about it beforehand and let you know you are being scored on multiple dimensions. Guess if you like that, you can probably bring your own list! Otherwise, understand that his extremely methodical and analytical nature is just how he is.

6. Does not show up.

Being stood-up hurts and can make you question everything. Stop beating yourself up and flirt with the bartender. Might boost your spirits (no pun intended) and make you smile before you call your friends to report this dating disaster.

7. Constantly answers his phone.

He’s nice enough about it – always apologizing while he proceeds to answer anyway. Unless it’s an actual emergency, his focus should be on you. If you try to be understanding and say “maybe we should get together at another time,” he’ll think you aren’t interested. And, maybe you aren’t anymore. Or, maybe you are, but you’d like an opportunity to get to know him at a time when you can both focus. You can choose to file this under ‘shit happens’ and give him another chance. Or you can be hard core and think “if this is how he treats me and we just met… I’m done.”

8. The dating disaster that he brings his mother.

This man wants a second Mother, and he’s bringing the first Mother to approve you. You’re kinda stuck meeting Mom unless you figure out a reason to leave.
